Brief Description
Hand coloured engraving set inside an opulent room with double-doors at one end, plasterwork and candelabras on the walls. Eight figures are shown, seven of them youngsters. A boy is holding a cricket bat in his right hand and watching a red ball which has struck and broken a glass case containing a vase, which is falling off its pedestal. Below the image is printed "Here you have him, in pursuance of a bright thought, playing at Cricket in the drawing-room". The artist's signature, "J Leech" is in the lower-left of the image. Written in pencil on the reverse is "Leech / circa 1830".
