Object Detail
Brief Description
Christmas card with an illustration of cricketers printed onto textured silk. The image shows a front-on view of a batsman whose stumps have been hit. The batsman is looking to the leg side, his bat flailing in the air. Behind him, the wicket keeper has both hands held aloft, and a surprised expression on his face. Above the image is printed text, "Where the deuce has it gone to?", and below, "May Christmas balls, with dancing, mirth and jest / Amuse you now, while cricket balls take rest". On the reverse of the card is a handwritten message that reads "A Merry Xmas / 1889 / W.H.W.". Writing on reverse reads "2".
