Object Detail

Brief Description
Silver cup on a wooden plinth. The main bowl is bulbous and has a cylinder with concave sides (resembling a vase) on top. On either side is a small platform, with an angel figurine standing on each. The stem is short with a wider section in the middle, flaring to a bell-shaped base. The attached plinth is a dark-coloured wood and has a curved profile. Around the cylindrical section at the top and the base is an indented foliage pattern with large, crossed leaves, and there is engraving on the bowl. The engraving is in a border resembling a belt, and reads "THE LANGFORD CHALLENGE CUP / COMPETED FOR / BY THE / Junior Cricket Clubs of / Hotham & West Melbourne / Season 1883-4 / WON BY / THE HOTHAM HILL UNION C.C. / Presented to / John Smith / FOR GENERAL EXCELLENCE / Aug. 8/84".
