Brief Description
Presentation cricket bat with spliced blade and twine-bound handle covered with black rubber grip. Featured on the reverse are ink illustrations, by Alex Gurney (artist) depicting an Australian Digger chasing Hitler and Mussolini, with portraits of three men from the army, navy and airforce. The hand painted inscription above reads THE MAYOR OF PRESTON'S / PATRIOTIC APPEAL / 1940. The face of the blade has been signed by members of McCabe's XI and Bradman's XI cricket teams, with the maker's mark WISDEN / LONDON imprinted near the shoulder. A metal loop and string have been attached to the handle for presentation purposes.
