Brief Description
Wooden cricket bat, with spliced handle, and with twine bound handle. On the face is the makers imprint which reads FRANCIS DARK/ LORDS GROUND, and a stamp which reads MADE SPECIALLY FOR BOYLE & SCOTT / MELBOURNE. There is a faint ink signature at the top left. On the back is a silver shield with engraved text which reads TO JOHN MCCARTHY BLACKHAM ESQ/ AS A MARK OF THE HIGHEST ESTEEM / I CAN HOLD OF A CRICKETER / ALL-ROUND, AND A WICKETKEEPER / OF UNEQUALLED EXCELLENCE / FULFILLING AT ALL TIMES / THE CHARACTER OF A GENTLEMAN / BY THE "KENS WHA".
