Brief Description
One of fifteen cheques paid to players during the Australian Test Cricket Team's tour of England in 1890. This cheque for £324-19-3, issued to S P Jones through 'The Australian Joint Stock Bank', is numbered 71443, and dated 22 September 1890. It has been co-signed by H F Boyle, the Team Manager on the tour, and by John Lyons, with an inscription handwritten in ink that reads, "Australian XI a/c". An ink line 'overwrites' the signatures. The cheque features a coat-of-arms with emu and kangaroo faintly printed near the left edge, and a red, one penny 'stamp' near the date, top right.
