Brief Description
Handkerchief mounted in a wooden frame depicting participants in the Tour de France of 1931. Imprinted on the handkerchief are images and last names of 24 cyclists including Hubert Opperman and Frank Thomas. The images are arranged over the outline of a map of France. Inscription on reverse, "TOUR DE FRANCE / 1931 / HANDKERCHIEFS SUCH AS THIS ONE WERE ON SALE PRIOR TO THE EVENT / BUT THERE IS A / MISTAKE / FRANK THOMAS / AS "OSSIE" MICHOLSON / NAME - NICHOLSON VICE-VERSE / ESCUSABLE PERHAPS / AS THEY WERE NOT WELL KNOWN IN EUROPE / THEIR FIRST VISIT, / AND THEY ARE AMONGST / A VARIETY OF NEW / ENTRANTS FROM OTHER / COUNTRIES".

A lovely item, but I can't help noticing another possible error. Nicholas Frantz and Frans Bonduel who are pictured are not included on the 1931 Tour de France start list.
