Brief Description
Water colour painting by Herbert James Woodhouse of R.W. Wardill at the crease with wicket keeper George Gibson behind him. Play is in front of the 1854 Melbourne Cricket Club Members' Pavilion (recognised by a section of the arched and double-gabled roof) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The painting is on a small sheet of paper which has been stuck to a larger piece of green card. It is a colour painting with an inscription in pencil at its lower edge which reads: 'H.J.W./1869/R.W. Wardill batting/Gibson - Wicket-keeping'. The inscription continues onto the mount, reading: 'R. Kitto'.
