Brief Description
Chromolithograph, full-length caricature portrait of Gilbert Laird Jessop (cricketer) in cricket whites, against a light grey background. Jessop is holding a cricket bat under his left arm, wears slatted pads and is putting on batting gloves. He wears a white shirt with sleeves rolled up, white pants, white shoes, and a green cap. His signature is reproduced at lower right of the image, and the pseudonym of the artist Leslie 'Spy' Ward is printed at lower left. Below the image in l.l. the lithographer 'Vincent Brooks Day & Son Ltd, in the centre is printed Jessop's nickname, "THE CROUCHER"; above left VANITY FAIR and above right the date JULY 25th 1901. Hinge-mounted on white foam board with cream window mount.
