Object Detail

Brief Description
Mounted sepia photograph that shows the Melbourne Cricket Ground during the match between the All England Eleven and the Melbourne & Districts XVIII in January 1862. In the foreground are figures sitting on the grass, and beyond is the cricket ground which is full of spectators. There is one long stand with advertising hoardings around it and marquees to the right of the picture. Because of the low viewpoint, the playing field and cricketers are not visible. This is one of the oldest photographs of the MCG in existence.
