Brief Description
Double page image from the 2 September 1882 edition of the Illustrated London News (pp.266-7), featuring a colour print of a cricket match at the Oval between England and Australia. The print shows the match as seen from the outer, with spectators in the foreground and with a wooden stand to the left. Most of the male spectators are wearing top hats or bowler hats, and the women wear long colourful dresses. The image has a caption printed below that reads "THE CRICKET MATCH, AUSTRALIA v. ENGLAND, AT KENNINGTON OVAL / FROM AN INSTANTANEOUS PHOTOGRAPH". The articles on the reverse are unrelated to the image.
