Object Detail

Brief Description
Metal, brass-coloured, cast belt buckle, roughly octagonal in shape, with raised detail. The buckle has a Maltese Cross design with alternating sets of crossed cricket bats and sets of crossed wickets in each corner. The centre area is circular and contains a separate but securely attached piece in the middle that depicts a head in profile, wearing a hat which reads 'THE CHAMPION' around the hatband. The head is attached to the body of the buckle via hidden metal pins at its top and bottom that pierce the buckle and are bent to fasten on the reverse. On the reverse the hook has been broken off.

Hi there, I recently found one just like this in a field in Devon, UK. How do you think it got there? I’d love to know, please email me if you have any more information. Thanks! Sam
