Brief Description
A silver plated snuff box presented to Felix William Spiers and Christopher Pond, restaurateurs who traded as 'Spiers & Pond', before their return journey to London in 1863 from Australia. A hinged lid features an embellished opening edge and inscription within a decorative border; "THIS TABATIERE / IS PRESENTED TO / MESSRS SPIERS AND POND / BY A FEW OF THEIR AUSTRALIAN FRIENDS / WHO APPRECIATING HOW FULLY THEY / 'WERE UP TO SNUFF' / IN THE COLONIES, CORDIALLY HOPE AND FULLY BELIEVE / THAT THEY WILL NEVER AT ANY TIME BE BROUGHT TO / 'A PINCH' / IN LONDON OR ELSEWHERE". The exterior is decorated all over with dappled engravings, interior is smooth.
