Object Detail
Brief Description
A pair of cream leather and cotton batting gloves believed to have been used by Ian Johnson. Finger padding leather is smooth with separated knuckle sections stitched in, palm side leather is textured for grip. A cotton thread holds the components together with an intricate weave, almost crocheted like lace. The right thumb is padded, left is not thus right-handed batter. The left top wrist is padded, the right is not and the left finger padding stops shorter than the right. Top of wrist band reads, "THE ? GLOVE", possibly a famous cricketers name used as a brand name. Inside of left glove, label attached reads; "FRANK BRYAN LTD / TRADE MARK / MAKER LONDON" with makers emblem featuring a grasshopper.
