Brief Description
A cricket bat with a wood spliced blade and a black rubber grip on the handle. The striking face of the blade is stamped with manufacture details reading, "CRADIDGE/ LONDON/ SHORT HANDLE". The rest of the manufacture details are faded and no longer visible. There are red ball marks indicating the bat has been used. The back of the blade has a circular sticker detailing how to care for the bat and a handwritten inscription in blue ink near the handle that reads "IAN JOHNSON". The back of the blade has 29 hand written signatures. On the left side is 12 signatures from the 1956 England team listed in order from top to bottom; Peter May (Captain), David Sheppard, Denis Compton, Colin Cowdrey, Jim Laker, Frank Tyson, Brian Statham, Godfrey Evans, Peter Richardson, Tony Lock, Jim Parks and Cyril Washbrook. On the right side is 17 signatures from the 1956 Australian team listed in order from top to bottom; Ian Johnson (Captain), Keith Miller (Vice Captain), Ron Archer, Alan Davidson, Gil Langley, Ken Mackay, Ray Lindwall, Neil Harvey, Richie Benaud, Colin McDonald, John William Wilson, Jim Burke, Ian Craig, Len Maddocks, Peter Burge, Pat Crawford and John Rutherford.
