Object Detail

Brief Description
A watercolour artwork presented in triptych format (using the ABC logo). The work’s subject is the ‘synthetic broadcasting’ of cricket used by the ABC to cover Australia’s tours to England from 1934-48, where telegrams from London were handed to commentators in Australia, and a block of wood was tapped to simulate the sounds of play. The first panel shows a cricket match between Australia and England in progress at Lords. The second panel illustrates the match being re-processed in the studio with cables and pencil tappings as a 'live' game, and the third panel shows a man listening to the match.
