Brief Description
Metal medallion attached to a blue striped ribbon. Medallion is gold coloured and circular. Front of medallion bears a raised image of the Royal Life Saving Society's logo, consisting of a pair of crossed oars and a rope in the shape of a three leaf clover, surrounded by the text 'ROYAL LIFE SAVING/ SOCIETY'. Blue and white enamel has been used in the logo. Text below logo in between the tips of the two oars reads 'AWARD OF MERIT'. Raised wreath decoration encircles the circumference of both the front and back of the medallion. Centre of reverse of medallion carries the raised words 'AWARDED/TO', above the engraved text 'J.PINCUS/V/1954'. Raised text encircling the text at centre reads 'QUEMCUNQUE MISERUM VIDERIS HOMINEM SCIAS '. Fixing at top of medallion has circular ring to enable medallion to be threaded onto a pin. Pin of medallion is made of metal and is rectangular, consisting of solid central section covered in blue enamel, with thinner gold coloured horizontal struts at top and bottom. Central section of pin features the raised lettering 'R.L.S.S.'. Pin is attached to the ribbon, with circular fixing from medallion threaded onto it.
A rectangular Bar is attached to the ribbon below the medallion. Bar is made of metal and is rectangular, consisting of a solid central section covered in blue enamel with thinner gold coloured horizontal struts at top and bottom. Raised lettering on front of bar reads 'R.L.S.S.'.
