Brief Description
Clipping featuring an engraving of a cricket match in progress on a playing field. Sixteen figures are taking part in the game, including two batsmen. The bowler is about to deliver the ball, while the other players wait in anticipation. There are three tents around the perimeter of the ground, one to the left and two in the background. A crowd of spectators watches from around the edges of the ground, particularly along the right boundary and in the near left foreground. Two large flags are flying over the ground, one in the left foreground and one in the left background. Writing on flag in foreground reads 'ILB/IZ/AVP'. Edge of field in background is marked with small flags. Buildings can be seen beyond stands of trees in the background. Title under image reads 'CRICKET-MATCH AT THE VICEREGAL LODGE, PHOENIX PARK, DUBLIN. - SEE NEXT PAGE.' Reverse of clipping (p. 314) features a small article on the cricket match pictured, as well as extracts of other articles.
