Brief Description
Black and white engraving of a cricket match in progress. In the foreground, a large, rotund man is batting and has just been dismissed by a man standing next to the stumps, ball in hand, who has just knocked off the bail. Two fieldsmen are visible behind the batsman. In the left background, two ladies and a man stand watching the game, and one of the ladies is holding a parasol. These three figures are standing in front of a pavilion style tent, in which a number of men are seated. One man stands outside the tent, leaning on a cricket bat. There are trees and birds in the right background. Text above image reads 'Sketches by Seymour./No.8./Vol. (illegible).' Text below image reads 'Out! So don't fatigue yourself, I beg, Sir./Published by G.S.Tregear, 96 Cheapside, London.' The number '14' is written in pencil in the lower left hand side of the front of the etching. Handwritten pencil marks on reverse read 'A5' and '3-'.
