Brief Description
Sepia photograph mounted to backing board of the MCC Lacrosse Section A team, runners up for 1896 and 1897. The photograph has been affixed to a sheet of paper before being mounted onto the backing board. The photograph is of thirteen men, all dressed in formal attire, posed on a set of stairs, location unclear. Three of the men are seated, the remainder are standing. The backing board is printed above the photograph with "M.C.C. Lacrosse Team, "A" Section. / RUNNERS-UP, SEASONS 1896 AND 1897." Below the photograph, the names of the individuals depicted are printed onto the sheet of paper which is affixed to the backing board, "A. Anderson / S.M. Simson (sec.) C. Handfield F. Staines A. Phillips H. Graham / J. T. Heathershaw T. Handfield B. Murray C. Potts / E. Jacobs D. White (capt.) F.Eeles" . Below the photograph, printed onto the backing board, is the inscription "Australian Record-Holders-23 Goals to nil, against South Melbourne, 17/7/97." There is a stamp on the bottom right hand corner of the photo, reading "Beaumont, / 237 BRIDGE ROAD., / RICHMOND." The photograph itself is in good condition, with some light surface speckling, particuarly in the bottom right corner. There are also some light surface scratches, towards the bottom left corner. The backing board has suffered some damage, there is foxing all along the right hand side of the board, near the photograph. There is a large mositure stain on the left side of the backing board, and some more isolated, smaller, drop marks on the top left corner. The corners of the backing board are rounded, and a portion of the top right corner is missing. A small portion of the bottom left corner is also missing, and there is a small tear to the board in this vicinity also. A tear in the board is also apparant near the bottom right corner of the board. On the reverse of the backing board there is an inscription in pencil in the top left hand corner, reading "F Eeles". There is light foxing on the backing board, and some moisture stains on the right hand side of the board, down the length of the object. There are sections where the paper covering on the board has come away, revealing the core of the board, ?possible insect attack.
