Brief Description
Framed,mounted photographic reproduction of a wood engraving produced by Australasian Sketcher. Picture depicts a cricket game taking place on the MCG. Foreground of picture depicts a bowler about to deliver a ball to a batsman. Also visible on the ground are three fieldsman, the wicket keeper, the non-strike batsman, and one other figure with a bat under his arm that is assumedly the umpire. A grandstand full of spectators can be seen in the background. Match depicted is probably the game between James Lillywhite's XI and the XV of Victoria, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26-30 December 1876/77. The Victorian XV won this match by 31 runs.
