Brief Description
Set of 11 stamps in four rows with accompanying sample post marks framed in a dark brown wooden picture frame. Beneath the stamps is a small text panel featuring the MELBOURNE 2006 Commonwealth Games and 'Australia Post' logos beneath the text, "Presented to Hon Justin Madden MLC, / Minister for the Commonwealth Games / in appreciation for opening / Golden Moments: Stamps of the Commonwealth Games / Post Master Gallery, 20 February 2006". The first row contains a stamp depicting a nude discus thrower in front of the English flag on a green background with the text, "BRITISH / EMPIRE / GAMES // AUSTRALIA'S / 150th ANNIVERSARY / CELEBRATIONS, SYDNEY / JAN-APRIL 1938". To the right of the stamp is a circular most mark with the next, "BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES / SYDNEY AUSTRALIA / 5FE38". The second row contains two stamps. The first depicts two sprigs of the Kangaroo Paw plant in front of a landscape scene with the text, "VII BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH GAMES PERTH 1962 / AUSTRALIA 5c". The second stamp depicts the Perth coat of arms inside a 'running track' formed from an olive branch and a medal ribbon with the text, "7th BRITISH EMPIRE AND COMMONWEALTH GAMES PERTH WESTERN AUSTRSALIA / AUSTRALIA 2/3". To the right of the stamps is a circular post mark with three competitors standing on a medal podium surrounded by the text, "VII BRITISH EMPIRE & C'WEALTH GAMES / STADIUM PERTH W.A. Aust. / 22 NOV / 1962". The third row contains 4 stamps. The first stamp depicts a boxer on a red background, the second an archer on a green background, the third a weightlifter on a brown background and the fourth a pole vaulter on a blue background. All four stamps feature the text, "XII Commonwealth Games / Brisbane 1982 // 27c / AUSTRALIA". To the right of the stamps is a circular post mark feature a weightlifter motif surrounded by the text, "XII Commonwealth Games / BRISBANE WLD 4000 // 30 SEP 1982". The fourth row contains 4 stamps - 2 single stamp and three stamps that are part of a series and attached in their original card. The first stamp features a stylised image of two competitors (one green and one orange) on a blue background with the text, "AUSTRALIA 50c / MELBOURNE / 2006 / XVIII XOMMONWEALTH GAMES". The remaining three stamps sit inside a coloured card featuring a map of the world on a blue/green background and silhouette of a man with his arms raised. Stamp 2 features a silhouette of a runner in the starting position on a green background, stamp 3 a silhouette of a cyclist on an orange background and stamp four the silhouette of either a netballer. All three stamps feature the Commonwealth Games 2008 logo and the text, "50c / melbourne / commonwealth games" - in lower case. To the right of these stamps is a circular post mark with the text, "XVII COMMONWEALTH GAMES / First Day of Issue 1 March 2006 Melbourne VIC 3000 / 2006".
