Brief Description
Reproduction of black and white photo of Ron Barassi Snr. Barassi is seated crosslegged on the ground in his football uniform. Caption under the picture reads, "Ron Barassi poses for a photo of the 1940 Melbourne premiership side". Barassi played for Melbourne Football Club in the VFL before enlisting in the Army in World War II. Barassi was part of Australia's campaign in North Africa before being killed in action at Tobruk in 1941. Barassi was the first VFL player to lose his life in the war. He was one of five Melbourne Football Club players to be killed during the course of World War II.
