Brief Description
Reproduction of watercolour by Thomas H Lewis of an early cricket match in Hyde Park, Sydney, 1843. The painting depicts a match between a local Sydney team and a team representing an Imperial regiment then stationed in Sydney. Standing and seated spectators form a wide oval around the match. Players are dressed in white. Two men appearing to be umpires, dressed in dark clothes, stand amid the payers. Two tents are pitched to the left. A number of large buildings and roads are in the background. The painting was produced well after the event, possibly in the 1870s.
