Object Detail

Brief Description
Vase, manufactured by Sèvres, presented to Australian Olympian Nick Winter together with the gold medal for the Hop Step and Jump - known today as the triple jump - at the 1924 Paris Olympic Games. The porcelain vase is tall and slender in shape with blue glaze background and linear gilded berry laurel leaf decoration over surface. Four applied circular slip panels in grey with light green centres containing low relief figures of naked male athletes depicting sport - wrestling, boxing, shot put and javelin. The rim is decorated with stylised bi-planes in white on lustre grey background. It is believed that this vase was possibly only presented to gold medallists at the 1924 Olympic Games and is a very rare surviving example. One of 300 preseneted to victors at the Games by the Paris City Council.
