Object Detail

Brief Description
Yellow and green robe worn by Australian Olympic swimmer Shane Gould at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. A cloth badge sewn on the right breast features the Olympic rings and a kangaroo. Green lettering - 'AUSTRALIA' - is sewn across the back of the robe. A name tag reading 'SHANE GOULD' is sewn on the inner collar. The robe's belt is missing. Gould created Olympic history in these Games by becoming the only female to win three individual swimming gold medals in world-record time. Gould entered five individual events and one relay event, winning gold in the 200 and 400 metre freestyle, and 200 metre individual medley. In addition to the sporting history of this robe, Gould wore this robe during the birth of her children!
