Object Detail

Brief Description
Half life-sized paste statue of Edwin Flack poised in runner's starting position with his right leg forward and right hand resting on his leg. The statue sits on a rectangular base, and is all white. The artist's name is carved into the paste on top of base: "SMILEY 1996". Edwin Flack lived in Berwick and requested that he be buried there when he died. To commemorate Edwin Flack in Berwick a reserve was designated and a statue of Flack was commissioned. Artist Smiley Williams created the statue and it was cast in bronze and installed within the Edwin Flack Reserve. The Artist made a plaster cast and presented it to Neil Lucas as a way of thanking him for the commission. This is a second cast that the artist made for himself.
