Object Detail

Brief Description
Small, two pieced, irregular oval-shaped brass metal badge with red and white enamelled front. Red star in centre with hammer and sickle over two crossed rifles and an anchor; aeroplane above in base metal with white enamel background. Two sets of initials in Russian Cyrillic script, within red ribbon at top of badge reads, (transliterated into Latin script), "DOSAAF SSSR". The translation of the full text is roughly, "Voluntary Society of Assistance for the Army, Airforce, and Navy - Union of Soviet Socialist Republics". On the inside face of the nut piece, which screws into and holds in place the badge proper, is the inscription, (transliterated from Russian), "Monetniy Dvor". This translates as '[Federal] Mint', and here the badge was manufactured.
