Object Detail

Brief Description
Length of grey metal cylindrical pipe with moulded sealed end. The other end is sealed with grey tape. This pipe was used to simulate the weight of the 1956 Olympic relay torch. The weight was exacted by placing lead and sand into the hollow of the tube. Each end of the tube was then sealed off with two metal discs soldered over them. It was one of several made and used by participants selected for the torch relay for training.
