A rectangular metal and enamel lapel pin, worn by a member of the Bulgarian national team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. The badge on the pin features an image of the national symbol - a gold lion rampant - derived from the medieval Imperial lion of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The lion is crowned with the star of Communism, which itself is crowned with the Olympic rings emblem. Cutting diagonally across the badge, behind the lion symbol is the tricolour of Bulgaria - three horizontal stripes of white, green, and red. Running down the length of the left side of the badge is an ancient Greek column, symbolizing the ancient roots of Olympism.
