Object Detail

Brief Description
Photograph of Betty Cuthbert in athletics attire, running on grass. The reverse of the photograph features a handwritten description of Cuthbert by Percy Cerutty, in pencil and ink, reads, "Note the good running form of Betty / Cuthbert, World Record & Olympic Gold / Medallist. Miss Cuthbert's compact body & leg / movement: slightly pinched [?] on fingers & / good head alignment. Note the long calf-muscle, an essential in good runners. / Note also, the "Kissing" of the knees, the absence / of shoulder sway. Miss Cuthbert was, perhaps / still is, she is training again as I write, a lovely runner. In every sense of the / word she is a lovely young woman. That is what / I expect to find in my athletes. The young / men grow manly: the women _ beautiful".
