Brief Description
Oar, rowing, wood, varnished; used by Captain H Disher of the A. I. F Service Crew during the first Kings Cup. Gilt inscription on black background on blade: "WINNERS KINGS CUP. HENLEY PEACE REGATTA. 1919. // A.I.F. / SERVICE / CREW // OTHER STARTERS / AMERICA. AUSTRALIA. (No 2 CREW) / CAMBRIDGE. / CANADA. / FRANCE. / NEW ZEALAND. / & OXFORD." Crest in centre "AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH / MILITARY FORCES" surrounded by wreath; winning crew also listed. Leather and metal row-lock; "8" printed in red above; metal cap at end of oar; old brass screw protruding mid-way along shaft; two holes drilled through shaft, metal collars inserted (recent - possibly for display?).
